Why is bamboo fencing so strong?
Bamboo is known for its strength and light weight. It has an almost incredible tensile strength, almost as strong as mild steel and is much more flexible than wood.
Once split for use in furniture, the bamboo retains inherent strength because of the unique longditudinal grain structure of the plant.
Traditional woven and strung fencing designs are impact resistant and not as brittle as treated pine timber palings. Longlife Bamboo fences are engineered using composite construction methods employing traditional binding and modern fabrication techniques for durability.

Can I get the fences in colours?
The standard Longlife Bamboo Coating is a natural Ochre Colour. We have chosen this because it blends well in most situations and has thus become almost our trade mark colour. However, we have developed other colours as well- black, canary yellow, natural and others.
Longlife Bamboo Conditioner comes in a natural Ochre Colour. We also have Longlife Plum, Longlife Whitewash, Longlife Green and Longlife Yellow.

Does bamboo represent a fire hazard?
As with all natural products, bamboo is flammable. No fire retardant is included in our treatment process. However, a Noosa Hedge panel, which was fitted on a deck next to a garage, suffered surprisingly little damage when the garage burnt to the ground and the deck also suffered extensive damage.

Where does the bamboo come from?
Longlife Bamboo framing is made from Plantation bamboo grown in Queensland supporting local jobs and local farmers. Australian Commercial Bamboo Growers have been patiently growing their plantations for the past fifteen years or so. Some of the smaller diameter bamboo sections come from import distributors interstate.

Does Longlife Bamboo require a lot of maintenance?
Longlife Bamboo is a natural product not unlike timber and therefore will require some maintenance. The stain coating requires an annual coat of UV protection to keep it looking good. This can be applied as a quick spray in areas where spray drift is not a problem. On smaller areas it is best brushed on with a paint brush but is much quicker to apply than paint.

If I use Longlife Bamboo as a decorative in-fill with a rendered block wall. Will the colour bleed from the bamboo and stain my fence?
No. We have several very beautiful examples of Noosa Hedge installed and the Longlife Bamboo Conditioner is not a product that will run from the Bamboo after drying. Feel free to browse the Gallery to see fences of this style.
